In their Scion Sessions video for their cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Vancouver’s Bear Mountain takes to the streets.
“We were chilling on the roof of our studio one day when we were suddenly approached by an extraterrestrial space being who said he had come from star system of Alcyone in the constellation of Taurus,” the band says about the video. “He came in peace to teach us this sacred dance to accompany the song ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World.’ He said this dance would help us and humanity see our true path on planet earth. We spent months learning and perfecting the dance, and only when it was perfect did we perform it for the world. Our alien friend left us the next day, but promised to return again one day.”
“Everbody Wants to Rule the World” is a gleeful, one-shot video filmed in downtown Vancouver. Amidst glittering glass condos, a troupe of dancers take centre stage—and convince a crew of nonchalant observers to join in the fun. The best part? Somewhere amidst the flailing limbs, there’s a ukulele solo. Chalk this up as another victory for Vancouver, a city that’s rapidly becoming known as a hotspot for emerging electronic producers.
